Steam Box, Epic Troll or Real Product

Earlier an employee at Valve leaked a few photos and some schematics for a controller to the webs. Is it real or is it fake? Could Valve be serious about breaking into the hardware market or are they simply playing with the idea? Personally I think it’s a fake or if it is indeed real it’s going to over heat extremely fast. This picture looks more like a network box or atom terminal in terms of size. The large wireless antennas seem a bit old fashioned, but the rest of the connections on the back are very modern. Again I must say that this looks just like a Atom terminal box in terms of size.

On the back we find

  • Power connecter
  • 2 X DVI
  • 2 X HDMI
  • 7.1 Audio analog
  • digital out
  • optical out
  • 4 usbs
  • Wired ethernet
  • Wireless

The listed interal specs are pretty close to what most modern gaming pc’s sport, but the GPU is nothing near what high end gamer’s desire. But that said this is not a high end gaming pc, this is an affordable box for anyone who does not own or can’t afford to own a gaming pc.

Specs as rumored

  • i7 quad core
  • 8gbs ddr3
  • Zotec z-68
  • onboard Nvidia Graphics

No word on cooling, or power supply or case materials or deeper hardware details. And as for cost, well it’s anyone guess but if you put these parts into a shopping cart on say newegg.com you will be sitting around $500 bucks, give or take your parts choices. What do you think?
