Anime Sources For The Under Funded Anime Fan

We live in harsh economic times, anime is expensive even at the $25 buck mark for some. I remember paying $30 for 3 episodes anime, and now you can get a complete series for that price. We all have tightened our wallets, but even for the most frugal fan there are options out there. When I ran my local anime club we had about 50 members all teens and most of us did not have jobs or money to buy much anime or manga. Using this example if your a kid or teen and you can’t work a job, your source of income is your parent. Anime and manga are a luxury that not all can afford to buy, so we short on cash got creative and found other ways to get anime. Here is a list of legal alternatives to paying full price for anime dvds or manga.

  • Public Library Not only was I surprised about the anime selection, the manga selection was vast and at no cost is a great option.
  • Anime Club – If your area has one and it’s legit, an anime club is great place to watch anime and socialize with fellow fans.
  • Legal Internet Streams – Crunchy Roll, Funimation, Crackle, Hulu, Youtube, Nico Nico, just to name a few. If you have internet access that is.
  • Paid movie service like Netfilx or Blockbuster or Amazon – Can be a cheap as low as $8 bucks a month for a huge section of movies, anime and more!
  • Cable –  Toonami and On-demand you would be surprised how many shows are on demand. Cable TV is not free but it is often over looked as a source for anime and you can watch theses shows on your computer or smart device, if its on demand you can watch it online through your account.
