Sega Pulling The Plug On Phantasy Star Universe

You read correctly, to whom it may concern (players on Xbox 360) who have an account with Phantasy Star Universe, so if your keeping track that’s players with a gold subscription and a current Sega pass subscription, you’ve got 3 months left till Sega pulls the plug. I feel bad for the players that are still enjoying the game, I played this game for months and as a player who enjoyed the game it’s really kinda sad to see it go away. Well at least you can still enjoy the single player mode, so something is better than nothing.

“This was not an easy decision but there comes a time when we must consider the level of service and support we can provide for an ongoing game” Sega said in a statement, “and balance those concerns against preparing for the future, and providing you with new opportunities and new experiences.”-Sega

With Phantasy Star Online 2 looming in the distant future (sometime this summer). Players do have some hope for the future, but at this moment Sega has no plans to release Phantasy Star 2 in North America. This really reminds me of when Sega Shut Down all the Phantasy Star Online servers for DreamCast, it was a sad day with no glimpse of what could be coming, which ended up being Phantasy Star Universe several generations later. I’m keeping my fingers Crossed in Hopes that Phantasy Star Online 2 makes its debut in America sometime later this year. These are sad Times for Sega, and a sad time for PSU players indeed.

“It has been a long run for our intrepid GUARDIANS: Across the Gurhal system for six years now, exploring new worlds and new challenges,” the statement said. “While we are saddened to close the doors to PSU on Xbox 360, we are proud of the game and of our loyal fans who have supported us through the years.

“More than anything we want to thank all of you once again, from the bottom of our hearts, for supporting this game, for providing feedback, and for enjoying and sharing in this experience with us.

“We look forward to taking our memories and the lessons learned from this game as we prepare to move into the future. There is more news yet to come for Phantasy Star, and there will be much to be excited about in the coming weeks and months.”-Sega
