How Japanese Women Spot “Creepy Otaku”

It’s okay to have a few anime shirts, and it’s okay to display your nerd pride while among friends and fellow fans. But wearing that pink Card Captor Sakura t-shirt to dinner with a date is a bit creepy, well unless your date is also Otaku. Otherwise I’d say stick with some plain clean cloths because your anime t-shirt just might creep her out. Why you ask? Well it’s creepy to non otaku, and according to survey’s it will scare off potential dates or people. Which brings me to the List.

Ah yes this list that was posted HERE , What do I think about this list, well it’s mostly true, but it’s targeting just anime Otaku, we could just as easily apply this list to American Comic fans, Fantasy Football, gamer’s and other collector types just to be fair.

This list was compiled by the Japanese website Sugoren; Teens and women in Japan took  part in the survey and were asked general questions followed by blank open responses. This list represents the response in order from 1-9 one being most obvious and 10 being semi obvious, by report count, for example number one was answered the most often and generally first. Added list and questions after break

THE LIST

1. Wearing anime t-shirts or carrying anime goods
2. Perfectly mastering dance moves otaku do at idol concerts
3. Talking endless about how cute anime characters are
4. Referring to game characters as one’s wife
5. Grinning ear-to-ear while reading a manga
6. Talking like an anime character
7. Using creepy cute onomatopoeic words
8. Giving oneself an anime character name for a nickname
9. Only singing anime songs at karaoke
There are only 9 listed on source page, so I’ve added a few more points.
10. Mega Anime Cell phone ring tones and wallpaper
11. Carrying a PSP or Nintendo DS
12. Playing LovePlus at the local coffee shop, dinner date for 3 – ya creepy

Your thoughts people? Is it fair to judge people like this? And do you think this applies to fans in the North AmericaEuropefans outside of Japan? -Because I think it does. I know it does.
