Anime Expo 2011: Danny Choo Panel

When they announced that Danny Choo was going to be one of the main guests of honor at this year’s Anime Expo I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing at first. He runs a very popular website about anime, figures, and the whole otaku lifestyle and culture. After sitting through his main panel on Friday I now see why they picked him. He simply embodies what I consider to be a hipster geek in terms of anime fans. He is charismatic, ambitious, and is technologically smart enough to code his own websites. I consider him to be an ambassador for us anime nerds to stand behind.

His panel was largely about the current projects he was working on. Many of the things were the use of his mascot Mirai Suenaga as well as him leveraging his new TV show Culture Japan. The show has been airing in japan for its first season, and the second season is on the way. The first season is going to start airing in the states soon as well! As for his ever loveable character, she is going to be appearing in the upcoming anime Twin Angel. More information on upcoming projects for Mirai can be found on her page page at DannyChoo.com.

He then segued into a more self help style of panel, talking about how to find your passion in life and how that passion will become your “second energy source” in life. Food was number one of course! The entire second half of the panel was all about being positive and pursuing your passion in life. He covered time management ideas and why it’s a waste of time to react to trolls and to respond to them. His best suggestion was to just acknowledge that they’re harassing you and move on with your life. Overall the second half of the panel was hilarious and very inspiring all around. I know that I came out of it with a renewed sense of why it is that I do what I do.

Danny Choo has earned all of the success and fame that he has acquired over the years and I congratulate him for being such a large role in this convention and in the Mikunopolis concert that happens later tonight. There will be more information on that once it happens!
