We stayed in at an Air B&B while in Japan, we lived like the locals, learned to recycle and figured out Pizza delivery. While not roaming around Tokyo we spent time figuring out our house, the gas heating system for the washer and bathroom. The Washer and air conditioner\heater units and the various things that are just different from american homes. Honestly the most difficult thing to figure out was the recycling program, and the the sudo squatty potty.
The town was fun and the house was cozy, but I can”t recommend all tourist do the Air B&B route unless you are willing to learn to live like a Japanese person, obeying the house rules, learning the trash and recycle, understanding how a Japaneses house works. Get a hotel if none of that interests you, but otherwise 10/10 will do again.
